The House of Switzerland is back in Rio de Janeiro to celebrate sport from 1 August to 18 September! Following the great success of the popular Baixo Suiça meeting place during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Switzerland's hospitality zone has reinvented itself for this year's Olympics. The 4,100 m² space features three houses and an outdoor park located on the edge of the popular Lagoa in the centre of Rio, 15 minutes' walk from Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.
It opened on 1 August, ahead of the start of the games, and will for the first time also be open during the Paralympics.

The Swiss meeting place welcomes visitors, athletes and their fans from around the world to watch the Games live on a giant screen and of course celebrate the Swiss medallists!

As one of the few national hospitality houses open to the public it provides a pleasant and surprising encounter with a multifaceted Switzerland. The varied programme of activities for young and old will mainly take place outdoors. It includes a 200 m² outdoor synthetic ice skating rink, a sprint track with timing system and photo finish, and Swiss tourist attractions such as a gondola, a typical Swiss mountain railway and a giant snow globe. For those who simply want to take it easy, the vibrant Swiss meeting place also offers rest and relaxation: visitors are welcome to picnic on one of the venue's lawns or relax in a hammock or a deck chair.

The House of Switzerland will also have an eating area to please every palate! Visitors will discover that Swiss food is not only about chocolate and cheese! There are plenty of other Swiss specialties which will be served during the games. A unique opportunity for guests to enjoy a culinary journey into our iconic meals, sometimes mixed with Brazilian traditions. One of the main culinary attractions are the 3 modern Swiss fire pits: the Feuerring. The concept combines the Swiss tradition of barbecuing with the Brazilian churrasco. Furthermore daily wine tastings present the diversity and the quality of Switzerland as a wine-producing country.

Besides sport, a diverse entertainment programme including concerts, DJs, street artists, cinema, workshops and some more surprises awaits visitors to the House of Switzerland. The Switzerland synonymous with education, research and innovation also has a platform, in cooperation with Swissnex Brazil, including an urban farming project.

A creative display concept creates a Swiss atmosphere, playfully combining modern Swiss design with traditional Swiss elements. With its location in the city centre, surrounded by hills and near to the Lagoa, the House of Switzerland is a little bit of Switzerland and Brazil at the same time, the meeting of two national characters and two natural environments. In keeping with the saying "opposites attract", snow meets Brazilian sunshine and Swiss cheese is served on pão de queijo. We want to celebrate sport and friendship together! See us at the House of Switzerland!
